Western New York is full of innovative people, often blazing a new trail and building a better Buffalo along the way. To celebrate these WNY Trailblazers, Be in Buffalo is participating in a blog series with a coalition including 43North, Aleron, Forge Buffalo, and TechBuffalo.
Kate Huber is the Co-Founder of CloudInsyte, a global tech services team. She is also a 2019 30 under 30 Buffalo Business First honoree.
As a prominent member of the entrepreneurial and tech ecosystems, we wanted to catch up with Kate to learn about her origin story, advice for others, and life in Buffalo after relocating from New York City.
Why did you pursue a career in tech originally?
I was working in healthcare and eventually decided that I could help more patients with technology. I had virtually no tech experience in my first role at a health tech startup, but I learned as much as I possibly could on the job and on my own time, and eventually worked my way into the roles I wanted.
What have you learned most in your role at CloudInsyte?
Nothing beats having a strong team around you. Celebrating wins and learning from losses is more meaningful when you have a tight-knit team that works well together day in and day out; you feel unstoppable with a team like that.
What would you tell other people interested in a career in tech?
Follow your passion first and then discover how technology fits in. Technology is in every industry these days, so figure out where you want to have an impact the most and then work yourself into a role within that space.
What’s your favorite thing about living in Buffalo?
The community. Buffalo is a special place to me because of how friendly and supportive the people are. "City of Good Neighbors" is very fitting!
As we look to flip the calendar on an undoubtedly tough year, what are you thankful for?
I am thankful for so much, but this year above all I am thankful for those who have been working tirelessly to produce a COVID-19 vaccine, and for our frontline workers who have put their lives on the line to care for us.
