Maybe the hardest part of starting this podcast was picking the name. Moving the mini fridge to set up the “studio” was tricky but over in an instant. Getting our equipment from the mailroom took a heist-like effort, but still was easier than picking the name. There were plenty of recycled post-its and schmeared whiteboards.
We thought of a few names that ended with 101, which loosely translates to “we couldn’t think of a name so we settled for this.” Inside InBN gained some traction but always felt like there was something better out there. Project Podcast felt a little too on the nose. And then there were the ones that do not even deserve to be noted in this post. It was a struggle.
Until it wasn’t.
We have a bell hanging on a wall in the middle of our office. When a company commits to expanding in or relocating to the Buffalo Niagara region, we ring the bell.
One day, it hit us. The podcast is called Bell Ringer.
Being an audio format, Bell Ringer works for sound effects and onomatopoeia. But most importantly, it embodies our mission. The ringing of that bell is the sound of progress for the Buffalo Niagara region. It’s the sound of a win. And now, it’s the sound of our podcast.
Welcome to Bell Ringer.
The format is simple: a conversation (and a blizzard round). We’ll talk about our guests’ area of expertise, how they’re helping to revitalize our region, and how their best practices can be a model for other businesses. We’ll do that biweekly. And we’ll try to make it fun for you, the valued listener, along the way.
A big shout out to local Buffalo band Marquee Grand for the intro and outro music you hear throughout the podcast. They have a music video with shots all around the region that inspired the collaboration.
We also want to thank our first handful of guests. Without them the podcast would quite literally just be me talking to myself.
On this teaser episode, we have our very own Alan Rosenhoch, director of business development. He made the point that the only thing that every failed podcast has in common is that he was never invited to be a guest. And while I’m not sure that’s the common thread to their demise, I’m a superstitious guy. So here he is.
Enjoy the episode. We have other episodes up on Podbean and iTunes (yes Mom, the iTunes). I hope you enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed recording. Thank you.
